Mini Makes....sketchbook

The Sketchbook Project 2013....'a two day project.'

Sometime last year, during one of my visits to the incredibly talented Cari-Jane Hakes of Hybrid Handmade, I read a post about her wonderful 2012 sketchbook project. Please pop over and take a look at her sketchbook posts and blog, they really are lovely. Anyway, I felt inspired to give it a go myself-registered in the nick of time in October and relaxed-after all the post deadline was 15th January. My mini sketchbook arrived in November-great, 'teeny-tiny' I thought-'this is going to be sooo easy'...Well, needless to say, after one thing and another-work and then Christmas  mainly, I got to the 13th of Jan and panicked. Best laid plans went out of the window-paintings, collages, sketches, prints.... no time for any of that-an inventive and catchy name for my project-no, none of that either...
So, my little book became a tale of life at my studio desk. Anything and everything I had used for styling or for the blog during the past few months, with a little bit of creativity thrown in (anything thrown in that 2 days would allow!) Paint tester pots, dried leaves, vintage postcards, my trusty dymo ( a true staple in all 1970s households), butcher's twine, string....whatever was in my cupboard of stuff. Here are a few pages-next year I'm going to be so much more inspired, so much more creative, so much more on time!?! I hope you like them! x

PS- Cari-Jane also shared a fantastic vimeo link on her latest post, which I'd love to share with you too as it's all about the brilliant Oliver Jeffers and the sketchbooks and ideas behind his very unique and entertaining childrens' books. Our kids Evie and Gabriel are huge fans and so are we!

  2. wow! 2 days! THAT is amazing! Well done! My book has just arrived for the '1703 miles and back' tour....deadline 15th August...still plenty of time (but also plenty of time to get busy on other things). I'm glad you like the Oliver Jeffers video - I'm a huge fan of his and still regularly read his books to my wee boys.
